Good Control, Necessary Control

by Rev. Karen Diaz on March 17, 2024

Good Control, Necessary Control

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15 NIV

U.S. Representative John Lewis spoke of getting in “good trouble, necessary trouble” as he reflected on working with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to organize and participate peacefully in civil rights marches. Their remarkable commitment to peace was grounded in and empowered by God’s Word, such as found in this verse.

We, as the Body of Christ, are counseled to let Christ’s peace have control - good control - of our hearts. We throw away anger, filthy language, and lying as unnecessary baggage. Instead, we commit ourselves to kindness, patience, and forgiveness. When we truly seek to love God and love others as He loves us, we allow God to take good and necessary control of our hearts, minds, speech, and actions. We are called to practice peace in our ministry work, at home, in school, on our jobs, and in our relationships. The good and necessary peace of Christ will then yield thankful hearts.

Let Us Pray: Lord, we thank you for loving us before we loved ourselves. Forgive us of all speech and actions that do not reflect Christ’s example. May we too be agents of change through the peace and love of Christ and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Thank you Rev Diaz for a wonderful piece on self control. It is important that our character line up with the Word of God. Be blessed.
