Small Group Bible Studies

Spring 2017 RegistrationOngoing Classes

Dear Church Family,

I began my journey as a new Christian, when my friend Rufus Smith discipled me as a new believer. I can still remember the little pieces of paper he would write study questions on. We bantered back and forth discussing and debating our newly gained knowledge and love of God and the scriptures. More than my philosophy and religion classes, more than my theology course in seminary, the kitchen table fellowship is what rooted and grounded me as a growing Christian.

It was this kind of study that strengthened and matured me. Also it was that kind of small group study that matured the Brookhollow family. Those days when you would see almost every growing Christian in this church carrying a discipleship study bible. We grew more, reached more, gave more and baptized more people during that period than any other time in the 28 years of this church. And it is what I believe God has called me back to as a pastor and teacher.

Pray about your spiritual growth. Select a small group that you can study, learn, pray and grow with. God by his grace has chosen you to “grow in grace and the knowledge of The Lord Jesus Christ”. 2 Peter 3: 18

Be Encouraged,

DisciplesPath – The Beginning

You have chosen to live as a disciple of Jesus, and you have made the most important decision imaginable. You will become more and more like Jesus as you purposefully follow Him in the weeks to come. No one ever loved and cared for people more passionately than Jesus. No one was ever more sincere in His concern for others than Jesus. And no one ever gave more so that we could experience His love than Jesus did on the cross. As you grow to be more like Jesus, you will find that your relationships are stronger, you have more inner peace than ever before, and you look forward to the future as never before.

DisciplesPath –The Call

The goal of this study is to help you explore the process of growing and maturing as a disciple of Jesus. The Way examines the journey of Jesus’ own disciples through different passages from the Gospels. Through this study, you will learn what it means to live each day as a disciple of Christ. On a deeper level, disciples of Jesus are those learning to base their identities on Jesus Himself. A disciple of Jesus is a child of God; a disciple of Jesus is an alien in this world, and a disciple of Jesus is an ambassador for Christ.

Jesus On Leadership

This Bible study by C. Gene Wilkes strives to develop leaders by following the pattern of Jesus’ ministry of training people to do Kingdom work. The study focuses on developing servant leaders which is what the church has been about since Jesus affirmed Peter’s confession of faith and established His church on that rock.

It starts with the ways Jesus modeled and taught leadership and presents principles gleaned from His ministry into church life. The challenge is to make Jesus’ example the guide and focus of leadership among God’s people. When a church follows a biblical model of servant leadership for all its leaders, God works in amazing ways through those leaders. Training servant leaders will be a task of the church until Christ returns. This is a 13-week study.

Marriage Ministry: Kingdom Marriage

Kingdom Marriage is about connecting God’s purpose with your pleasure. Kingdom Marriage is a covenantal union between a man and a woman who commit themselves to function in unison under divine authority in order to replicate God’s image and expand His rule in the world through their individual calling. When you treat your marriage as a covenant with God, everything else—including love, happiness, satisfaction, and fulfillment—will fall into place.

Pick-A-Book - Deuteronomy
Many have tried to summarize the Bible in few sentences to capture its overall theme and flow, but the best description is that “The Old Testament” is an account of a Nation (the Hebrew nation). The New Testament is an account of a MAN (the Son of man). The whole Bible is built around the Greatest Story ever told of Christ, and His promise of Eternal Life to those who accept Him. It was written so that humans might Believe, Understand, Know, Love, and follow Christ.

The Mind of Christ
The Mind of Christ is a 13-weeks study by T.W. Hunt and Claude V. King.

Paul said, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 2:5) Jesus emphasized that the kingdom of God does not come with outward observance but by an inner working that is not seen. That directs us to the mind, the area where God wants to work. The changes that He brings in your life are secret and inward, but they will bear fruit that will be visible in your life and lifestyle. You want to experience a Person—Jesus Christ. You want to develop His way of thinking and His way of living. Time and meditation are necessary to allow the Holy Spirit to make this time renewal process real in your life.

Twelve Extraordinary Women
This book is about twelve women who were unremarkable in and of themselves. They were ordinary, common, and in some cases shockingly low-caste women—in exactly the same way the disciples were common men. All of these women ultimately became extraordinary not because of any natural qualities of their own but because the one true God whom they worshipped is great, mighty, glorious, and awesome, and He refined them like silver.

Twelve Ordinary Men
In Twelve Ordinary Men, author John MacArthur draws principles from Christ’s careful, hands-on training of the original twelve disciples for today’s modern disciple–you. Contrary to popular belief, we do not have to be perfect to do God’s work. Look no further than the twelve disciples whose many weaknesses are forever preserved throughout the pages of the New Testament. Jesus chose ordinary men–fishermen, tax collectors, and political zealots–and turned their weakness into strength, producing greatness from utter uselessness.
