My Biggest Cheerleader

Scripture: “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

Devotional: Friends, it is good to know that regardless of life’s challenges or circumstances that one may find oneself in, remember this, we are never by ourselves.  For our God is a big God and though we may feel that no one cares, or we feel all alone, know that He is always with us! As children of the life-giver King, it is imperative that we recognize that we have the greatest cheerleader on our side who is encouraging us along the way each and every day in Jesus Christ, who delights in being with us!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we come to you acknowledging You and You alone as our rock and our redeemer.  We appreciate you being there for us day in and day out; for truly we don’t deserve it, but we are thankful for your great love and compassion toward us.  Now God, open our eyes to see You as our supporter and our sustainer; we cannot thank you enough for all that you have done for us, in the precious name of Jesus, we pray Amen and Amen!

Reflective Question: Have you experienced God cheering for you?

Weekly Devotional | My Thankfulness Can Lead to Peacefulness

Weekly Devotional

November 19-25

My Thankfulness can lead to Peacefulness

Scripture:Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus..” Philippians 4:6-7

Devotional: I grew up in an era where one of the foundational truths that was drilled in my conscience was to always be thankful!  Regardless of how big or how small the generosity from someone toward me, I can still hear my father and mother’s voice saying, “Junior be thankful and grateful.”  As we observe Thanksgiving day this week, it might not be a bad idea to remind those that we love and those around us how thankful and grateful we are for each and every one of them.  More importantly, however, spend some time this week communing with God in giving Him thanks, and rest assured that He will give you His peace and His presence to truly enjoy what it truly means to celebrate Thanksgiving!

Prayer: Most Holy and Righteous God, Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, our hearts cry out Hallelujah; for we give you glory, and we give you praise!  As we prepare this week and celebrate another national Thanksgiving day, remind us of the magnitude of being thankful and grateful for what You have done for us and knowing that we have access to Your peace that can protect our hearts and our minds.  We thank you for your great love and sacrifice for us in sending your one and only Son to give His life for us; we magnify and lift your name on high, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord we pray, Amen and Amen!!!

Reflective Question: What are you most thankful for this year?

Weekly Devotional | No Comparison

Weekly Devotional

November 12-18

No Comparison

Scripture: “Who is like you, Lord God Almighty? You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.” Psalm 89:8

Devotional: We enjoy comparing things and people.  In the arena of sports, we often seek to compare athletes from various generations.  We will say verbiage like this, “I believe he is the next so-in-so, or she is the next so-in-so because of similar traits, character, and success of that famous player from the past.  In the arena of our walk as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, however, we know that there is no comparison to God we serve!  Thus, we strive every day to grow in grace and knowledge of Him because His power, His protection, and His promise surround us!

Prayer: God, you are the rock of our salvation, and we love you and we give you glory for being a mighty fortress in our lives.  Father, we recognize that we cannot do anything apart from your amazing power; for there is no one like you.  Now Lord, remind us to never take your faithfulness for granted, and in return, be obedient until thee, in the strong and powerful name of Jesus Christ our Lord we pray, Amen and Amen!!!

Weekly Devotional | Our Superhero

Weekly Devotional

November 5-11

Our Superhero

Scripture: “God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins. Acts 5:31

Devotional: I remember as a child watching cartoons that reflected characters of amazing strength such as Hercules, and Superman, and though he didn’t look like a powerful figure once he ate his can of spinach, my favorite, Popeye!   They all had the power to rescue those in distress, to save people’s lives, and to bring peace to a community.  While I enjoyed watching these cartoons as a child, I knew that they were fictional and they never compared with the real hero of my life, as a child; King of King, Lord of Lords, Prince of Peace, and Savior of my soul in JESUS CHRIST, Superhero and Superstar!

Prayer: Father, we give you glory, we give honor, we give you praise for Jesus Christ; there is no one like Him, and thank you for loving us that much in giving Him to us.  Now God reminds me daily of His power to forgive me and His presence to walk with me and because of His promise that He will never leave me or forsake me, in His name Jesus we pray, Amen and Amen!

Reflective Question: Who would excite you more; seeing your favorite superstar or the real Superstar?

Weekly Devotional | The Eternal Answering Machine

Weekly Devotional

October 29 – November 5th

The Eternal Answering Machine

Scripture: “Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.” Isaiah 65:24

Devotional: Many couples who have been married for many years, in some instances, begin to favor one another in appearance and personality.  Many times one will finish a statement that the other one has started because they know each other that well.  For you and I, as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, isn’t it good to know that God knows what we need long before we even encounter that need?  Oftentimes, we might not agree with His answer at that particular time but as we grow in grace and knowledge of Him, we soon discover that His answer is not merely based on temporary fulfillment but eternal joy!

Prayer: Lord, we thank you for hearing and answering our prayers, our concerns, and our needs because of your infinite resources. We give you glory for interceding in our lives and providing for us what we stand in need of; thank you for your presence and enabling us to trust in every situation that we face, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!

Weekly Devotional | Giving It Up To The Giver

Weekly Devotional

October 22 – 28

Giving It Up To The Giver

Scripture: “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” Matthew 13:44

Devotional: I am sure that you heard the statement “it’s time to wave the white flag.”  Many times, this is mentioned in a sporting event when one team is losing very badly to their opponent.  However, have you heard this phrase, “it’s time to wave the red flag?”   The red flag here is a metaphor for someone or something that is in distress or in need of special attention.  As Kingdom Children of God, you and I were lost but we have discovered this special treasure once we surrendered our lives to Jesus Christ; for He is the giver of our joy!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for the opportunity to be partakers of your joy and your peace.  We recognize that life is not easy but with you, all things are possible!   As we grow in grace and understanding of you, help us to advance your kingdom here on planet earth by surrendering all to you as we represent you, in His name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen!

Reflective Question: Why is it so hard for you and me to let go and surrender some issues to God?

Weekly Devotional | A Sure Thing In The Savior

Weekly Devotional

October 15 – 21

A Sure Thing In The Savior

Scripture: He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. Deuteronomy 32:4

Devotional: Perfection is hard to match or attain in any endeavor.  In baseball, no one hits a home run at every bat; in basketball, no one makes every shot and in football, no one scores a touchdown every time they touch the ball.   In life itself, you and I cannot find perfection in our careers, our families, our relationships, and even our health though we may eat and exercise properly.  Only in Jesus can we recognize a “Sure Thing” because He is ever present, constant, and full of grace and mercy and lives inside of us!

Prayer: Eternal God, we adore you and praise you for giving us a Savior in Jesus Christ who is perfect, faithful, and upright; remind us to know that through Him, we can do and accomplish all things; we give you glory in His name we pray, Amen!

Reflective Question: In your life, what or who can you depend on right now?

Weekly Devotional | No One But God’s Love

Weekly Devotional

October 8 – 14

No One But God’s Love

Scripture: “Yhe saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,” Titus 3:5

Devotional: Oftentimes you and I take one another for granted.  The expectations of just knowing that someone will be there for us leaves us panicking when they are not there for us.  We feel that they have let us down and yet we sometimes take the greatest love extended to us for granted in what the Lord has done for us!  Friends, God’s extension of the love of His grace and mercy toward the underserved (you and I) cannot be matched!

Prayer: Father, thank you for showering me with your love that I have done nothing to deserve; I thank you and give you glory for looking beyond my faults, my selfish desires, my issues, and my problems, and seeing exactly what I need; thank you for saving me, in the powerful, penetrating name of Jesus Christ, our redeemer we pray, Amen and Amen!

Weekly Devotional

October 1 – 7

Father Knows Best

Scripture: “You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?  Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. Job 42:3

Devotional: Do you ever wonder, not aloud, but silently, quietly, is God really paying attention to me and all that I am experiencing right now?  After all, I pray and seek His guidance and direction and yet, my situation, my issues, and my problems are ever before me.  Well, you are in company because the bible is full of personalities that have walked that same path and like them, we must come into the reality that God is God!  My friends, though it’s your life and you are going through some challenging times, He knows your life and your future; let God be God because He truly knows best!

Prayer: Gracious Father, we acknowledge You as God alone, God all by Yourself!  Thank you for watching over us and protecting and providing for us, even during the circumstances of our lives.  Remind us to look to the Hills when comes our help and renew our hearts to trust you in all things; we love you and give you praise, in the sovereign name of Jesus Christ, our redeemer we pray, Amen and Amen!!!

Weekly Devotional | Seeing Is Not Believing

Weekly Devotional

September 24 – 30

Seeing Is Not Believing

Scripture: “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,” I Peter 1:8

Devotional: When I was a child, I would anticipate looking forward to certain events each year, in particular the Fall, the beginning of a new school year, Thanksgiving, and of course, my favorite holiday, Christmas!  I would get so excited and so enthused as these days on the calendar approached.  My level of excitement was not based on what I knew or what I could see, but it was based on knowing that my parents would ensure that we, as a family, would have a wonderful experience, regardless of the struggles that we were having financially.   Now, if I had that kind of excitement about the anticipation of those events, shouldn’t my level of joy be even more for my God, who is the creator and sustainer of all things?   No wonder Jesus said to his disciple, Thomas, “blessed is those who have not seen but yet they believed.

Prayer: My Father, who art in Heaven, Holy is thy name!  We bless you and we adore you for being the only true and living God; thank you for being everything to us!  Now Lord, remind us to just think about your goodness and exercise our faith in you, and let us know that this joy that we have can only come from thee, in your darling Son, Jesus’ name we pray Amen!

Reflective Question: If you could visibly see God, what would He look like to you?
